Yesterday, I was reading my July/August 2009 issue of Memory Makers Scrapbooking Magazine. As a subscriber, I get the issues before they hit the stands. So, this blog post may come as a complete shock to those of you without a subscription.
Allow me to continue…
In this issue was the announcement of the 2010 Memory Makers Masters Contest. It comes every year in August. I wanted to enter last year, but didn’t feel that I was ready. So, this year I was certain… I was definitely pulling out all my creative ideas tucked away inside me and making the four BEST layouts ANYONE had ever seen! While the announcement of the contest was in the magazine, the details for entering are only to be found online.
Much to my dismay however, there were no contest rules. Just a short note and an attachment explaining that Memory Makers Magazine was ceasing publication as of its Sept./Oct. 2009 issue. I was devastated! (To say the least.) THIRTEEN years of inspiration, creativity, stunning designs and layouts, all no longer to be part of my ever continuing creative process. I am deeply saddened.
But what saddens me even more is that this is the SECOND scrapbooking mag to cease publication in the past SIX months. I am with a heavy heart that alas this awesome hobby is no longer as accessible as it once was due to the world economic situation.
When the world hits survival mode, hobbies become luxuries that we can no longer afford. And so is the case. I can only hope and pray that things will turn around quickly and we will all be adorning our precious memories with beautiful scrapbook pages they deserve. Until then…
