I know you’re all waiting for me to post the results of my most recent scrapbook challenge. And my apologies that I’m still not doing it yet. So far, I’ve received one layout and I have the one I’ve done. Do people actually do scrapbok challenges?
I have to admit, when I was first introduced to challenges, I thought, “what a waste of time.” But then as I began to hone in on my craft and really take my skill to a new level, I realized the value of a scrapbook challenge.
Scrapbook challenges are meant to inspire us, to bring out the creativity. They force us to step outside our comfort zones and create something new and fresh.
Sometimes, our pages begin to look processed and generic. Same layout, different colors. What do you do to stir things up a bit?
I want to know… if you’re not using challenges as a tool to inspire new, fresh layouts, then what ARE you doing for inspiration? Please let me know. What a fascinating topic! How other scrappers get inspired.
I’m waiting for your responses. (And more layouts to my most recent scrapbook challenge.)
Happy Scrappin’!
Hi
I haven’t really done any challenges yet as they make me feel pressured by deadlines. I have looked at many and thought yes I’d like to join in but I think when I start I might just do the challenge on my own so if I don’t make the deadline then it’s ok!
I do find inspiration in scrapbooking and card making magazines and books as well as places like pagemaps where they post sketches for people to interperet. The books and mags are where I find ideas on how to use products differently and things that I’ve not used before. Just last night i made four cards from sketches on pagemaps and they all came out great!

I just wanted to encourage people to do the challenge pages. We can all learn from each other.
I was flipping through TV channels last night and landed on QVC (one of the home shopping channels) because they had scrapbooking supplies and tools for two hours. Bonus!! I wondered if there was anything that I would just have to have. I contained myself and bought nothing. Personally, I think it’s better to support your local scrapbook stores and buy from them. Cord Camera Scrapbooking Stores and Scrapbook Art Polaris are my favorites in the Columbus, Ohio area. I am putting a plug in just in case there are other Ohioans on this blog.
There is a moral to my story. Lisa Bearson who is the founder of Creating Keepsakes magazine was showing the items. She said something that didn’t sit well with me. She showed an album that she had done for her son 18 years ago. It was simple, but sweet. And we all know how much scrapbooking has boomed in the last few years. Scrapbooking was not an industry 18 years ago. She pretty much said that she was embarassed to be showing the older album on the show which was simply made.
Don’t ever, ever feel embaarassed or shame when you put memories on pages. Everyone’s pages evolve over time. And we have zillions of choices of supplies now. Who would have ever thought. Scrapbooking memories is most importanly about love. Just because something is simple doesn’t mean it doesn’t have value.
Sometimes, I think we want so badly to create a grand work of art worthy of the Creating Keepsakes magazine cover that we forget that simple pages are beautiful treasures too. So create and send your pages to Hdar. We will all be excited to see your creations. It’s all about love.
